ITALY

CAMPANIA

CANTINE FEDERICIANE MONTELEONE

This Campania winery is famed for their Gragnano which is the frizzante red that comes from the town of the same name on the Sorrento Peninsula outside of Naples. Drunk young and served chilled, Gragnano has a touch of sweetness, a smoky finish, and a slight effervescence that cuts the fattiness of cheese and oil. It is 'the wine' the Neopolitans pair with pizza! That being said, this winery produces four other wines that also have great appeal.

Penisola Sorrentina Gragnano DOC

Grape varieties: Aglianico, Piedirosso, Sciascinoso

Description: Dry frizzante red, effervescent and fruity (red fruit) perfect match for pizza and pasta dishes. Unlike in North America, in Italy, the Italians typically pair pizza with beer or coca cola. There is one exception, the Neopolitans who reside in the pizza captal of the world pair their pizza with this wine and its sister wine Lettere. It is an ideal match for pizza! These are not sweet lipsmacking wines ike many Lambruscos. You have to try to know! Those that do repeat order them!

Penisola Sorrentina Lettere DOC

Grape varieties: Aglianico, Piedirosso, Sciascinoso

Description: Dry frizzante red very similar to gragnano but higher in acidity and has more minerality that the gragnano as the grapes that are used for Lettere production come from an area of vineyard that is inland where the soil is less rich in nutirients and at a higher elevation. Intense ruby red color with a lovely effervescence. Medium-bodied with a soft finish. It is fruity (red fruit), crisp and savory. It goes well with antipasti particulary with cured meats, and in keeping with the Neapolitan culinary tradition, Lettere (and its sister wine Gragnano) is the ideal pairing with pizza! These are not sweet lipsmacking wines but blanced dry wines. They are a must try! Those that do repeat order them!

Campi Flegrei Falanghina DOC

Grape variety: Falanghina

Flaegreo Spumante Di Falanghina

Grape variety: Falanghina

TENUTA SAN FRANCESCO

Tenuta San Francesco in Tramonti, sits in the emerald heart of the Amalfi Coast. In 2004, the S. Francesco farm, part of an ancient estate in Tramonti was brought back to life by the passion of three local families, Bove, D'Avino and Giordano, to revive an ancient viticultural tradition in honour of their matriarch who has since passed. The farm extends over about seven hectares and produces wines from the grapes that historically have been of this region. Through the combined utilization of modern equipment and traditional viticultural techniques in which only natural products are used, this winery boasts six beautiful wines and two fine grappas, all of which are true expressions of this extraordinary region.

Jerry Yang, Co-Founder of Yahoo, visited this winery in August 2012 and purchased several cases of their wine. Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel and international diplomats have also visited this beautiful and renound winery.

This is one of my favourite whites ever. Quattrospine Tramonti Reserva DOC

Grape varieties: Tintore, Aglianico, Piedirosso

This wine presents red fruit, sour cherry, leather and spice. Beautiful tannins and a lengthy finish. This is a rare and beautiful wine.

MOLISE

CAMPI VALERIO

The Valerio Winery was founded in 1972 in the Commune of Monteroduni, in the Province of Isernia (of Molise) by Prince Giovanni Pignatelli. The winery is surrounded on a sides by vineyards that were planted by the Prince himself and where he produced his two wines: Selvotta, a white wine from Trebbiano, Bombino and Falanghina grapes, and the San Nazzaro from Montepulciano and Sangiovese and Tintilia grapes.

The actual winery, a landmark in the region, has been completely renovated and remains the only one in the province that has survived. This is thanks to the perseverance of the local people who were deeply connected to this terrior which lies between La Terra di Lavoro and the County of Molise.

Antonio Valerio, the current owner took over in 2005 with a focused vision. The first fundamental goal of achieving this vision was to reclaim the old vineyards. The vineyards were desolate for several decades. Antonio Valerio lead the revitalization of the vineyards starting from a detailed study of the terroir, climates, and aspects of the vineyards and the grape profiles. Simultaneously, the winery was modernized.

With the 2006 harvest and the attainment of the DOC Pentro designation, this long abandoned region has been brought back to life and produces wines of unique and historic appeal.

NEW ZEALAND

WAIHEKE ISLAND

PEACOCK SKY

The owners of Peacock Sky Vineyard have migrated thousands of miles to start their new life in the centre of Waiheke Island, surrounded by lush native bush and overlooking the sparkling blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. They share their verdant home with a flock of wild peacocks from which the vineyard takes its name. Their enterprise is clearly where they should be in the world and in life as their wines sell out and are award winning. The wines..qualify as treasure for some. We are fortunate to have them available here and it is due to a Canadian connection; one of the owners is a former Canadian Chef, Connie Festa and Apparition Wines was connected to her by a cosmopolitan Kiwi with some influence: thank you Divya!

The logo of Peacock Sky is a butterfly.. not a peacock. Why? It is because butterflies symbolize migration and transformation which is exactly what the owners have achieved: a move across the globe and a transformation of their lives in tandem with a vineyard.

At present, Peacock Sky is making two of their award winning wines available in Canada...buy and stay tuned for the others.
